Evaluation of Magazine Development

I have developed on my magazine and have changed some of the features in relation to the audience and other feedback that I have received from my target audience. I have made the font on all of my pages smaller this is allowing the images to be the main focus on the page by doing this it is important to allow the bolder images and other key features to stand out on the page.

On the cover I have made the puff,barcode smaller this is good because this is allowing them no to be the main things that are looked at on the magazine this is allowing the images and the features of the inside of the magazine to stand out and look good on the page. I think that by having the artist name in a large font this is allowing it to stand out as this is one of the main features that are on the cover of the magazine.

I have made the features column on this page smaller and by including more information on the features this is allowing the magazine to look more professional as it includes all of the key features that would be on a magazine contents page. I have moved the subscription feature lower down the page as I think that this interferes with the title of the contents page.

by changing the font size this is allowing there to be more information to be placed on this page this is allowing there to be more text that will look like a normal double page spread. I have moved the quote from the top right of the page to overlap the image this is effective because this is allowing more space to create a title section to the page. I think that by having smaller text with a small into this is allowing the page to be more effective on the eye as it is then drawn to the into on the text page. the red colours used on the left page in the quote in the L's on this page allow a bold contrast in colour to the magazine also goes well against the mustard colourer top in the image and on the title this is allowing the features like the quotes to stand out on the page which will be one of the main things that is looked at in the magazine as this is the first and only time that this bold red is used on the magazine.

Billboard Magazine Double Page Spread

This magazine doesn't consists of the main conventions of a double page spread this is what makes it the most effective. I think that by having one bold image this is the most effective because this allows there to be one main focus point on the screen. by including a basic colour scheme this allows the viewer to have a focus points within the text and the images.

There are mainly dark colours used throughout with the hints of pink and green. this is allowing the pink and green to stand out the most and draw the readers eye. there is a basic style of clothing used on the page. This is allowing the outfit not to draw the attention away from the feature which is Miley.  she is wearing jewellery up her arms this is effective because this is allowing the outfit to be draw together with these pieces.

They have used a column design on the right side of the page this is allowing there to be a convention style to the page. by having one column and not a page that is filled with text this means that it is allowing a brief insight into the artist and by doing this it will allow the feature photo to be more effective on the viewer.

The features in the photo are her shoes and her hair this is effective because this is allowing her to portray her style and therefore allowing her to stand out on the page. I think that by having her looking at the camera this is the most effective because this allows the viewer to feel like they have a connection with the artist.  by using a shot of her sat on the floor and with her having eye contact this means that she is showing her self at the same level as the viewer this is effective as the viewer feels more involved with the advert.

Q Magazine Double Page Spread

This design is effective because of the use of bold colours this is used to allow each aspect of the page to stand out making sure that this is a bold article. the article has been place over two pages with a clear divide between the two. they have used an image on the left with the title of the artist this is allowing there to be a first focus point on the screen. by doing this it will allow the viewer to view this before they look at the text.

On the right side of the page they have used three columns and a title at the top this is effective because the title is the first thing that is looked at and then the quote that is further down the text. I think that by including this it will allow the viewer to see a quote that has come from the artist. they have used red txt throughput the double pages this is allowing there to be parts that stand out. there is a red title at the top of each paragraph this is eye-catching and therefore brings the viewers attention to each part of the columns.

they have used an image of Lady Gaga looking at the camera and she is contorting her back this is effective because this is allowing the viewer to look at the clothe that she is wearing and her hair colour and style. They have used colour's and images that are suggestive of love strength power and sexuality. this is effective because this is what appeals to the viewer. this is also linking to her style which is what her fans look for from her. the use of such bold colours is what makes her style more effective and this is used to help to draw the audience in.

NME Magazine Double Page Spread

NME have used a basic design throughout there magazine. by using a simplistic black and white style on this double page spread this has allowed the coloured areas to stand out more. I believe that by including these coloured features it means that they are bale to have areas on the pager that your attention is drawn to. the use of the colour yellow has allowed there to be a style of energy to be displayed to the viewer. I think that the effective use of colour on this double page means that there are underlying meanings that will appeal to the viewers in different ways.

They have used a double column style on the left of the pager this is smaller than normal designs because they have used an image that overlaps the two pages. I think that this is different because not only have they used a black and white photo they have done it over two pages which makes the design more effective. in the photo they have put the band members in a V shaped height order this is allowing the page design to go down as the high of the band members does. they have used the tallest people at the sides moving into the smallest. this is effective because they are all in basic clothing and the centre member is in a broad knit jumper this is allowing the photo stand out even though there is no colour in it. this is effective on the viewer because this means that the V shaped design is allowing there to be a central focus point of the page which is the man in the middle of the shot.

the use of black and white photography ahs been used to symbolise emotion and this is reinforced  with the facial expressions of the band members this has been used to the magazines advantage because this has allowed them to create another depth and meaning to the article. I think that this has allowed the pages to be more effective and impactful on the viewer as they will look more into the expressions on the band members faces.

Spin Magazine Contents Page

Spin magazine have used a basic design that features two people on the pager. they have used a similar style of clothing on the two people. they are wearing matching suit outfits this is a connection that is made along with the quote in the top right corner of the page. it is used top create a link between he two and the text on the page this is effective because this is allowing the viewer to develop an understanding of the photo and its meaning.

They have used a single column to display the text in this is effective because this is allowing there to be the key points of the magazine to be displayed. by doing this it allow the viewer to see what the main features are. they have used black and white throughout allowing there to be a vintage and old fashioned style added to the photo. this is also emphasised through the outfits that they are both wearing.

The colour navy blue used in the bottom right corner is effective because it is saying who the photographer is this is linking to the photo this is effective because this blue is suggestive of loyalty and intelligence this is linking to the 'She & Him' photo and article. the use of red on the title of the magazine SPIN is suggestive of energy, strength and power this is allowing the magazine to seem powerful and that it has an impact upon the viewers. this is key because it is allowing the viewer to see the magazine title as a bold and important to the contents page. the use of colours have been used on this magazine to allow the viewer to create their own ideas of the meanings of the colours. this is the most effective aspect because this is what is used to crate an impact upon the reader.

Vibe Magazine Contents Page

 

They have included an image of the letter V this is used to allow the magazine to be branded as VIBE this is used to put across the name of the magazine. this has been used to fill space and create a simple layout. this is a simple design that has been done on a plain background this is effective because this is sued to emphasise the feature which is the image. the use of a black and white colour scheme has allowed the design to have a classy and elegant style this is effective because it is allowing the viewer to focus on their own features as there are minimal colours used to catch you eye.

 

there has been lots of different fonts used this is effective because this is allowing the different style to appeal to different viewers. the use of bold fonts allow the design o have aspects that stand out and then the use of flowing handwritten style writing has allowed it to match with the elegant style that has derived from the black and white photograph.

 

the black and white colour scheme has been broken up with a red heart being held over Kanye West's chest by a woman's hand. this is effective because the colour and the heart both are portraying lover and affection. this has been used effectively because of the moody expression that is on the artists face. by doing this it has allowed the facial expression and the other darker features in the contents to be broken up allowing the viewer to have one singular feature on the page to focus on.

 

The use of titles such as Fashion and Features has allowed there to be an alliteration on the page of the titles this has allowed the design to flow together and become more uniform on the page for the viewer to look at.

Q Magazine Contents Page

On Q magazine they have used 4 seperate images this is good because this is allowing them to display more than one artist and include more features on the page. they have included on column on the left of the page. this is allowing them to have a title and then a small paragraph underneath each title meaning that they can have a brief summary of what is involved within that section of the page.

They have included 4 contrasting and different images there is not main colour scheme on the design however there is red running throughout which is based on the title of the magazine Q. they have included images and numbers of the pages within the same shot. by doing this it allows the viewer to link between the shot and the page number. in the main image they have used a shot from one of the band members form MUSE he is wearing a shiny silver blazer which is creating the main point on the page they have included a number at the top right of his photo allowing the viewer to see what page that feature is on.

they have contrasted all of their images by including a shot of the double page spread at the bottom left of the page I think that by doing this it allows the viewer to see directly who is on the double page spread and what the title and quote say. this is effective because this has allowed them to have an insight without having to read into the article its self.

they have used numbers on the images to make the connection between the mages and the numbers on the contents page this is effective because there has been various styles used throughout the design meaning that they are linked to the pages. this is allowing the photos to be explained in a brief paragraph underneath each title.

V Magazine Cover

 

V magazine always have a simplistic V design on the cover of every edition I think that y doing this it allows them to create their own brand and logo like Q magazine. however this is a bolder design because they have used it across the whole cover of the magazine allowing it to go over the artists image. by doing they have adapted and changed the design of the V on each edition to match the style and the colouring in the photo of the artist.

 

They use the image as the main feature the name of the artist is done in a smaller font meaning that this is not one of the main focused on features on the page.  they have used the conventions of thirds because they have included two thin columns on the left and right of the cover allowing there to be an insight into the magazine. on the right they have used a smaller section where they have said the artists name and a small caption about them allowing the viewer to read a little about them. on the left column of the design they have written artist names in a long list they have not written anything about them but by doing this it allows the viewer to see who is written about in this week issue. they have also included a barcode and the edition and year number at the bottom of the page allowing the buyer to see what number it is.

 

the use of no colour in the image is effective because this makes this edition stand out more because it gives the design a classy and elegant style to the magazine which is effective because many of V's magazine are coloured and all use vibrant style on the covers that match the artists that are featured on the covers.

GQ Magazine Cover

In GQ magazine they feature some music artists this edition features Kanye West this magazine abides by the main conventions they have the page divided up into thirds allowing there to be un seen divides between the columns and the images on the page. this is allowing the viewer to identify where each section begins and ends on the page.

this is an effective cover because of the use of colours and images,. they have used blacks, whites, greys and beige. these colours are all working together to create a mature and sophisticated style to the magazine. the use of a white shirt has allowed the attention to be drawn to the beige jacket this is an effective colour to use because it is suggestive of a calm and warm style this is important because this is used well because it links with his stance and body language however it is contrasted with his facial expression allowing the viewer to have features on the page that are different from each other. the use of the colour grey has been used on one section on the bottom right of the page to allow there to be another feature put on the page. this is important because this is what is used to allow the reader to see what is inside of this weeks issue.

They have used linking colours on the clothing and on the artists title Kanye West because this is allowing there top be a colour connection between the two this is used to show how they link. the use of lots of side text is good because this is allowing the viewer to see what is included in the magazine without having t open it. this is a key feature when creating a magazine because this is what is sued to draw the reader into buying the product.

The Fader Magazine Cover

Fader magazine has created a very basic style to all of its magazine covers they mainly consists of minimal text and basic imagery. this is effective because there are not many magazines out there like it. on each of their magazines they include the same title style however they change the main F lettering colour on each edition this is effective because they adapt the colouring to the covers photo. this is allowing them to create a colour scheme on their covers.

on this cover they have used white as the main feature colour this is good because it allows to to focus on the main image which is the artist.by creating a white frame around the artist this allows the magazine to have a bold contrast on the cover.

they have included 4 features of text on the page which are all printed in white. they have used the title to the magazine, the artists name, the edition and the text 'summer music' this could relate to the edition allowing the reader to understand what the edition  is specifically featuring. the use of minimal text has enabled the viewer to not focus directly on the text and this allows them to look at he facial expression of the artist and what they are portraying themselves. the use of Skeptas hand being brought up to his face is allowing the photo to be broken up and by dong this it is creating more layers that are then defining the fore, middle and the background to the page.

white is able to be used to represent purity and perfection these are both effective ion this magazine cover because the style that has been done is allowing there to be a clean and seam less style to the cover this is effective eon the viewer as they are able to see how the magazine comes together well. they have also included a smaller font underneath edition to show the website of the magazine this is sued to allow the magazine to show that it is available online this is effective because it shows they the are working off different platform's.
